Who's Who at All Saints?

The bell ringers of All Saints Swanton Morley were formed in late 1999 to ring on the newly restored and augmented bells for the New Year’s Day Peal. A letter was sent out by the Friends of All Saints Church asking for volunteers to learn to ring and seven people came to learn.
The band were trained by ringers from Beetley, Whissonsette and Gressenhall at local towers, so that on the first day of the new Millennium the bells could peal out with thousands of other around the country.
Over the last decade the bell ringers have gone from strength to strength; with the band growing in numbers and the standard of ringing improving greatly. We have now started to enter striking competition which are held in the Western Branch as well as holding our first tower open day.
We have a dedicated team of Sunday service ringers, who make sure that the bells of All Saints are rung every Sunday there is a service to welcome the congregation to the church. The bells are also rung for a variety of church events including concerts and special services including weddings.
The bell ringers also ring for important events in the village as well, most recently the village carnival and to celebrate milestones in organisations which are based in the village.
We are always looking for new people to join our band and take up the art of bell ringing, if you think you’d be please have a look at the “Interested in Learning” page of this website.
The ringers also hold lots of events through out the year including an annual tower outing were the ringers of Swanton Morley visit towers in Norfolk to have a go at ringing in different towers and on different weights and numbers of bells.
In 2010 the ringers marked the tenth anniversary since their formation with a number of events including a sponsored skydive and culminating in a special church service conducted by the Canon Sally Theakston.

Aaron is the Tower Captain of the All Saints Swanton Morley Bell Ringers. He has a variety of responsibilities from the running of the practice nights to the organisation of events for the ringers to take part in. During the practice nights Aaron helps Sarah teach the learners how to handle the bells.
Aaron has also arranged the various tower events which help raise funds for the bell ringers, noticeably the tower open day in 2008, the teddy bears picnic and zip wire in 2009 and the popular treasure hunt around the village in December.
Ted is the Deputy Tower Captain and the the Tower Treasurer of All Saints Swanton Morley Bell Ringers.
Ted also makes sure that there is a band organised to ring for the Sunday morning services at Swanton Morley as well as attending every Sunday to ring himself.
Ted was one of the seven people to reply to the letter sent out by the Friends asking for ringers to ring on the recently restored bells.
Sarah and Brian are our experters in teaching new recruits bell handling. Both are ringers from Whissonsette, where Brian is Tower Captain. Both are able to put learners at ease, helping to take the nerves of ringing for the first time away.
Sarah and Brian both take ringers through the first stage of learning to handle the bell to ringing both strokes together to finally ringing by themselves before joining the rest of the band to ring in rounds.
